It’s almost summertime, and the kids will be out of school on summer break in no time. Now is the perfect time to take a little assessment of your home. Whether you are looking to refresh your space or want some new paint colors for your home, we have some of the top 10 trends for interior design in 2022 for you.
Last month, Gracious Home Interiors attended High Point’s Spring Market. The market showcases the world’s largest selection of home furnishings, including furniture, decorative accessories, textiles, and more. It’s a great time for designers to see their favorite vendors and connect with new ones. It is also the perfect opportunity to see what’s new and the upcoming design trends.
While we are at market, we have a few goals. Sure it’s fun to see all of the new furnishings but we are also searching for the perfect pieces to complete designs for our clients. It’s important to see products firsthand and sit on furniture to test comfort levels. Finding new vendors also allows us to broaden our offerings.
Wallpaper is dominating designs in 2022. You can put wallpaper anywhere from bedrooms, ceilings, bathrooms, and the back of built-in cabinets. Wallpaper adds colorful patterns and fun colors to your home. Our favorites right now are the beautiful Chinoiseries prints. Walking High Point Market, we saw so many new wallpaper companies on the market that offer fun, wild, and fascinating patterns. However, our go-to wallpaper companies are still Thibaut and Schumacher.
Window panels and shades are great for adding color and exciting patterns to a design. In 2022, we will see lots of patterns and prints in window treatments from drapes, sheers, and roman shades. We found many companies in High Point that offered many beautiful prints in several bold and bright colors that we fell in love with.
Artwork that “pops” off the wall is a great way to add interest to a room. Wall décor that adds life to a tired or flat space creates a lot of interest and gives an unexpected element to the design of a room. We saw fun wall décor in every showroom at High Point, from handmade round grass-woven discs and grapewood branches to enamel-painted circles and flowers.
The shape of furniture is changing. Softer curves that make a space feel more comfortable are what people are looking for. Sofa and chairs that are more organic in shape and rounded are here to stay. These curved furniture pieces are showstoppers yet cozy and create a bold statement.
We wrote about texture in 2021, but this design element is still on-trend in 2022. Texture is the use of different materials that show visual interest in a space. Texture creates layers, dimensions, and warmth, and prevents the room from feeling one-dimensional. Rattan, jute, rope, textiles, and organically shaped furniture are great ways to add texture to your design. See your blog on texture here.
As much as we like light monochromatic pallets, we have more fun with color! Vibrant colors and coordinating mixed patterns are trending this year. Warm jewel-toned accents in rich colors like these beautiful orange textiles below are making their mark in designs. These bright colors are the easiest way to take your current neutral palette into a moody and dramatic space.
One way to add an intriguing element to a room is through a new light fixture. Sculptural lighting adds uniqueness, personality, and charm to your home. Shiny metals, brushed brass, polished nickel, rattan, and jute lighting lead the way for finishes. Remember, your lighting tells the story of your style and sets the design for the room. See our blog on what to know about updating lighting fixtures for tips on picking out new lighting.
The number of new outdoor furniture lines has expanded. The pandemic has made homeowners put more of an emphasis on outdoor living, and furniture makers have listened. The newly arriving outdoor furniture has more fabric, and outdoor upholstered sofas are a new category. These sofas and their coordinating pieces look like they belong inside but are made with sun-proof performance fabric, so they resist fading, mold, and mildew.
The days of all-white everything are coming to an end. Organic neutrals and pops of bright colors are coming back into designs. Don’t be afraid of paint colors with rich warmth and deep tones. A color palette with unexpected accent colors and even accent walls is making its way back into design. Some of the colors that we are using right now are De Nimes No. 299, Iron Ore SW 7069, Urbane Bronze SW 7048, and SW Blustery Sky SW 9140.
Layered textiles add texture to a room, and in 2022, you can have fun with as many prints and patterns as you like. We gravitate towards pillows with geometric shapes and designs but are still neutral. They are easily partnered with pops of colors and brightly colored throws.
We can’t get enough of bedding from Ann Gish right now. Their new bedding collection offers rich jewel tones and is so luxurious and absolutely beautiful! The elegance in their layered bedding incorporates on-trend hues, quality construction, and one-of-a-kind fabrics that you won’t see anywhere else.
Interior design trends are more than changing color palettes and materials. They speak to how people are evolving. How people use their homes today is far different than how they used them even ten years ago. People want more spaces in their homes that are multi-purpose, a place for their children to learn and grow, and an outdoor place to entertain. Knowing design trends allows us to keep an innovative edge in our designs. We design spaces that reflect our clients’ lifestyles and take pride in offering high-quality home furnishings that are high in style and on-trend.
