If you are anything like us, we are tired of the high 90-degree weather and are ready for fall! Don’t you love the smell of the leaves, the color of the trees, and the feeling that holidays are just around the corner? This year, we are looking forward to a little more “normal” well as much as it can be since we are still in the middle of a pandemic. What this pandemic has meant for interior design and decorating is that people are staying home and investing a little more in decorating for the seasons. That includes for fall. So what is on-trend for fall decorating this year? Comfort, color, and texture.
When the season starts to change from summer to fall, the air is cooler, and the leaves start to stir. The changing of the seasons also changes our moods to seek out deeper, jewel tones colors, the smell of spicy and warmer scents, and comfy textiles to cuddle up to. Here are some design trends to consider as you start to refresh your home for the fall.
Jewel tones pair perfectly with the earthy neutrals that we love to set the stage for fall. Many sand and terracotta colors have made their way into the market this year which fits well into the fall color scheme. You can partner these colors with the traditional autumn/orange colors to create a fall warmth that blends the modern and seasonal hues.
As the weather cools down, it is so nice to find a warm, ultra-soft throw to nestle up with. Throws and other textiles are a great way to add texture to your space and can be a simple way to change up your existing décor. Think of layering in comforting fabrics with natural textures to create a warm and inviting space. Our favorite materials are plush faux fur, soft cashmere, velvet, flannel, and even knits for the fall and winter months.
Updating bedrooms is another space to remember when refreshing your home. We often change our bedding during the fall as we prepare for colder weather so this is a perfect space to mix in a variety of fabrics and different textures. Let’s face it, your bed linens should always be “cozy” but this is the time where you can pump up the layered textiles. Embrace luxury textiles like plush velvets and faux furs. They are super comfy and come in so many vibrant colors.
If anything else, COVID has taught us that it is fun to entertain outside. Whether planning a pumpkin carving party or serving up some fall-inspired cocktails, spruce up your outdoor entertaining spaces need to be spruced up for the fall. Lanterns, pumpkins, and even a change of the cushions and outdoor pillows will bring the space to life. Add in a large basket outside to transport extra pillows and throws indoors when needed. Lastly, don’t forget that there are a lot of sophisticated fire-pit and heater options available for when the cooler fall weather sets in.
As you get ready for hosting, think about how your home smells. There are so many wonderful-smelling candles and diffusers out during the fall that cater to all five senses. Not only do candles make your home smell delightful, but they also bring warmth to your space and are great to decorate with. Think over-sized lanterns, candles, and candlesticks when decorating. They are great on tabletops, dining room tables, and outside your front door. Add in pumpkins and fall leaves to your dining tablescapes and occasional tables to bring the fall inside your home.
