Nothing is better than enjoying a bathroom that feels like a retreat within your own home. Remodeling and designing a new bathroom comes with many options, finishes, and material choices. Trust us, from over a decade of experience, there is a lot to consider when selecting fixtures, features, and accessories. Bathrooms are looking more and more luxurious in home design today, and designers are proving that you can have fun, and bathtubs are optional. Adding color, textures, and unique features can make your once-outdated bathroom feel like you stepped into a luxury spa. Here are five ways to create a beautiful bathroom design.
2022 was a busy year, and Lori and her team at Gracious Home Interiors had the privilege of designing over a dozen bathrooms for Bridwell Homes. When planning, we first look at the space when deciding on the layout and floor plan. The size of the room matters in balancing out the room. Next, look at ways to maximize the space. Some people may or may not want or need a bathtub but want the largest walk-in shower possible. Once you figure out the foundation for the room, the details pull together the design.
Out are the days of plain tile. Going bold with your flooring choice inspires creativity in the rest of your bathroom space. Tile can be large, small, textured, or patterned, and a bathroom is one place where tile will always stay in style. Contrasting black and white tiles are classic, but using brighter and bolder materials is on trend. Look for tile that is resistant to moisture and stands up to stains. We love hexagon tiles, and here’s one of our favorites.
Our favorite finish is champagne bronze right now! We used the Delta Ara 17 Series from build.com in Champagne Bronze for one of our latest designs. We love this color because it is a muted brushed gold/copper finish with a slight shimmering effect. The color replaces the classic brass and nickel finishes and works in many design styles, including modern, contemporary, and traditional homes.
Matte black and brushed gold are additional great bathroom finish options. These color choices upgrade your space to more than a “builder-grade” bathroom and add a more unique and personalized touch. The matte black finish offers a bold and elegant look and complements other fixture finishes. Plus, it works wonders against white cabinetry and wall colors.
Bathroom remodeling is a hot topic because homeowners are looking for ways to revitalize their current spaces. Long gone are the days of having a large garden and corner bathtub that takes up nearly half of the room. They are challenging to clean, take a lot of water to fill up, and rarely get used. Meanwhile, the shower in the room is often a single stall that offers little space and nowhere to put your toiletries. If this is your bathroom, keep reading!
Our perfect bathroom would include a freestanding bathtub, double vanity, and an oversized walk-in shower equipped with multiple showerheads, including a rain showerhead and wand. Bathtubs add a luxurious feel, and having a separate shower space means you can customize the design. Upgraded bathroom fixturing is a cost-effective way to create a high-end bathroom.
Have you ever heard of mood lighting? Bathroom lighting makes or breaks the room. Lighting should be noticed and is a way to show off your style. Wall sconces that flank a mirror are some of our favorites. Recess lighting in a shower and an elegant chandelier over a freestanding tub are dramatic ways to light the beautiful features of the bathroom.
Don’t be afraid to have fun with your bathroom mirror! We source some of the most unique mirrors from Uttermost, like this Gray Cyprus Mirror that features faux shagreen embossing and antique brushed brass detailing. Mirrors bring the spice and can be any shape, including rectangle, oval, arched, round, and even square. Be bold and create visual interest with more unique shapes that fit the bathroom aesthetic.
In our Leyton Place project, we added a round mirror with a gold frame and a bronze accent frame for added style. It lays partially above the custom tile backsplash and is pulled together with the wall-delivery sink faucet in the matching gold color.
Deciding on the color palette, bathroom fixture finishes, and hardware pulls a look together. Don’t skimp on the accessories like having a shower bench if space allows or double showerheads. These additions will make your bathroom feel custom and are great for resale. Live in the Charlotte, NC, area?
